The activities selected for the reintegration of demobilized ex-combatants aim to:
- Increase agricultural production in communities and among beneficiaries, thereby contributing to improved food security and incomes for small-scale farmers.
- Train demobilized individuals in small trades and commerce.
Food Crops
White beans (cowpeas), sesame, cassava, paddy rice, and tobacco are highly profitable in local and neighboring country markets. They offer opportunities to improve the incomes of demobilized households and their host or home communities. These locally consumed staples also ensure food security. Moreover, they have a quick impact, enabling demobilized individuals to earn income within three (3) to six (6) months of activity.
Goat and Sheep Farming
The establishment of animal farms at the scale of groups of eight (8) demobilized individuals is an initiative proposed by the ex-combatants themselves. The allocated funding will ensure the construction of enclosures, the acquisition of herds, and the purchase of veterinary equipment and products. The project will draw on the expertise of agents from the National Livestock Development Agency (ANDE).
Small Trades
The small trades activity consists of connecting young demobilized individuals with skilled workers from the National Pioneer Youth (JPN), from whom they will learn useful know-how for their professional and economic reintegration.
This activity aims to promote local jobs that generate secure income in fields such as carpentry, masonry, mechanics, welding, and tailoring. At the end of their apprenticeship, young demobilized individuals are expected to become self-sufficient and move out of poverty by using the skills acquired through the JPN. For this purpose, an installation support kit will be provided to the demobilized individuals.
